Oh brother! You have no idea what the holidays feel like as a REALTOR. They feel like CHAOS. First of all, I love Thanksgiving. The entire month of November I celebrate the CAUSE and passionately support focusing on gratitude. I used to focus a lot of my idle time thinking of food. For over 40 years I was the ONE who hosted Thanksgiving, so food was center stage. Now I don’t have to do that anymore, so I focus on trying to juggle a busy work schedule with having face-to-face time with my clients. This weekend has me doing just that. I want everyone to KNOW just how much I appreciate having them in my life. It is such a treat to be able to take some time during this busiest time of year to thank everyone for being there for me, my clients, and my family in the year past.
THEN there is Christmas! Who doesn’t love it? I know there are those people who don’t. I love it all (accept the darned traffic), but I especially love the reason for the season. As a Christian I celebrate the entire season. I love ADVENT, waiting on all the special moments of the month of December. I love gifts, lights, and especially the amazing smells of the holiday season. My days during this time of year are JAM packed from before dawn until I collapse at bedtime. In addition to showing homes, creating listing presentations for my upcoming listings, and organizing the normal routine madness, I have an additional load of cards, gifts, and loving my own family and friends.
The greatest challenge is getting everything in, and being available for the myriad last minute things that come up during December. I would love for my clients to understand a change that really affects us: THE DARK! I love the lights, but showing homes after clients get off work in the dark is so difficult. I know, people need to work, and have their own holiday ideas but they also need to finish an escrow, buy a home, sell one, get moved, etc.
So at this time of year, please be extra patient with your real estate professionals. Also be especially patient with doctors, dentists, and the lady at the grocery store. We ALL are busting our butts to work harder, smarter, and still have a little time for celebrating. A shout out to my very special support staff, who are always here for me: Melinda my amazing tech wizardess and my number one assistant Joanna, without whom I would likely retire! And for all my family and friends who goad me into remaining my busy realtor self each day during the year and hold me accountable for SELF CARE.
In case I miss you, Merry EVERYTHING this season, but especially Merry Christmas. May the joy of the special gifts of this season be showered on you all.
