ARE YOU READY? Every year about this time, I get out there and remind people that while you are waiting for it to warm up, buyers have already begun to think about buying a home. Sellers be ready! Get the garage cleaned out, the grounds cleaned up from winter winds, and begin to clean out the interior closets. Getting ready to sell your home is an effort worth taking seriously. It is easy, but not without toil.
Now is the TIME! This year the market is already heating up to Spring frenzy. Interest rates are moving up, pricing is strong for sellers, and there is little inventory! NOW IS THE TIME to be ready if you are going to sell your home this year. Do NOT wait until everyone else is ready. Beat them to the punch. You will have an easier time and quicker sale turn around.
Readiness: CLEAN EVERYTHING! Inside, that means from floor to ceiling. Fan blades are often overlooked, lighting of all sorts, and vaulted ceilings. Please get them clean, as people do notice and it understandably can weigh in your favor if you have cleaned those often forgotten places. Get the carpets cleaned towards the end of the readiness practices, and the windows will wait until just before you intend to get pictures taken. The rest of the house needs to be as clean as possible. The best way to begin is with two boxes and one large trash bag in the smallest room of the house. Go to the smallest bathroom, clean the cabinets under the sink, clean out the drawers, clean the vanity, faucets, and mirrors, and work your way to the lights. Change the bulbs so that they all match. If there are any bulbs burned out, replace the whole fixture with fresh light bulbs.
Here’s what to do with the boxes:
Box #1 should have things you will keep and move to the next home. These should all be things you can fit in the cabinet under the sink
Box #2 should have things which you can donate to your church or favorite thrift store. Travel size shampoos, extra soaps, and packaged toothbrushes are always welcome donations.
Bag: TRASH IT! Yes I know you might keep that one item for years in case you need it! Ask yourself this “would I PAY MONEY to move this”???
GET IT DONE! You can do this. If you need a pep talk call your favorite real estate Pro, and packing and moving cheerleader, Deb St.John.
